Sustainability a key feature of project brief
Elite Designers are very pleased to have been appointed as structural engineering consultants on the design and construction of a new secondary school for 270 students in the port city of Mahajanga located on the north coast of Madagascar. The Lycée Majunga will extend to approximately 3000sqm on a site of 1.7 hectares.
Understanding the challenges and constraints imposed by the geography, topography and climate of the island will be core to the development of our brief and throughout the design process. This will be reflected in the final structure to ensure that it can withstand the cyclones, strong winds and flooding to which the island is prone, particularly in coastal regions such as Mahajanga. Sustainability is another key driver of the design brief. Every effort will be made to ensure that Lycée Majunga is future-proof by designing it on energy-efficient principles, using renewable materials, promoting natural ventilation and incorporating the learning and expertise of local construction practices.
