Elite Designers have been retained to advise on this Putney-based residential extension project. The challenge is to optimise the space whilst working within the difficult constraints imposed by the presence of fragile and tall masonry retaining sides abutting the hoped-for extension on both sides. This series of sketches forms part of a feasibility study scheme that sets out potential approaches to the demolition of an existing garage structure and the construction of a new single-story extension.
The existing garage walls currently act as a buttressing structure providing stability for the existing garden retaining walls. Therefore, the construction of the new extension must progress in stages, constructing 1m segment of the new wall at a time, demolishing garage walls stage by stage and propping the existing retaining wall at the same time.
